It Isn’t Fair!

Why do my drugs cost so much when others get the same drug for less? The simple answer (although more complicated) is our drug distribution system in America. There are 5 distinct entities between the drug manufacturer and the end consumer that set a price, which includes their profit, on any individual drug, branded or generic. Adding to the price are ancillary expenses such as distribution, transportation, storage, dispensing, and marketing.

In other countries such as Canada, the provinces negotiate directly with the drug manufacturers and sold to pharmacies reducing the number of entities that control the end price to consumers.
